This months thought is...
Super-Chargers, Work or not???
Well, would they work? We can forget that for a bit while we think about how they work in real life.
A super-charger basically is something which blows air into the engine to make it faster, this makes
the air:fuel mixture be leaned out greatly. If this is run very fast for a long period of time it will
decrese the engines life, but in theory it should be so much faster that you wouldn't care. There are
2 ways of making a super-charger work:
1. Use a separate motor to blow the air into the carburetter.
2. Use the engines own power to blow the air into it.
Now, obviously, option 2 is going to be much more efficient but the problem is getting the power from
the engine back into the engine. Option 1 will add significant weight to your car because you will need
an electric motor, batteries, a speed control or on/off switch and a 3 channel radio to operate it. So option
1 is much more expensive and heavier but is much easier.
